Now here we are with BDs and I'm even more in heaven. Reel tape simply lost what little advantage it had in the marketplace, and Columbia House abandoned the format in late 1984. Cassettes had supplanted 8-tracks, reels and even vinyl, and audiophiles were starting to embrace CDs. Then, AHHHHHHHHHH, the DVDs started coming out and I bought them up right away. The story of prerecorded reels came to an end in the mid-1980s. ![]() ![]() Over the years, the Columbia University Archives has collected audio and video recordings of. When it re-appeared on TNN in the late '90s/early 2000s I was excited though the episode was squashed a bit so TNN could run a ticker/advertisement bar at the bottom of the screen but not do it over the video. I don't think I got through even half the series recording that way and buying the episodes on official tape just wasn't practical for me then (a high schooler.) So I just accepted watching the show in reruns on cable. Styx Paradise Theater and Journey Escape rank amongst my top 100. I also rarely paused-out commercials as it required too much work and attention to the show and it'd create some serious clipping when the commercial ended. Some of the songs from those tapes still rank on my top 100 songs of all-time list (Foreigner Waiting for a Girl Like You, Journey Open Arms, Queen Bohemian Rhapsody, Queen We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions, and Styx’s The Best of Times ). For space sake I recorded them with the VCR set to "EP" which got about 6 episodes or so -but looked like utter ass. Of course it was in "as it aired/syndicated" order and not episode order. ![]() Hell, I just recorded the show when it was on TV, reruns and all to "collect" the show. The Columbia Record Club began marketing stereo records and equipment in 1959, reel-to-reel recordings (via the Columbia Reel-To-Reel Club) in 1960, 8-track cartridges (via the Columbia Cartridge Club) in 1966, and cassettes (via the Columbia Cassette Club) in 1969.
