![]() Tane Garden House is the latest addition to be revealed at the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein. (Image credit: Photographer Julien Lanoo, courtesy of ATTA and Vitra) Tane Garden House by Atelier Tsuyoshi Tane Architecture Transparent and light, the four-storey building – configured from 13 staggered layers of stacked box-like units wrapped in greenery, that seemingly hover above the ground – is home to two gallery spaces, 26 residences and the French restaurant Cépages. Maebashi Galleria, just five minutes on foot from the hotel, was designed by architect Akihisa Hirata. More recently, countering its industrial decline, its creative projects are increasingly in the spotlight, including the landmark Shiroiya Hotel by Sou Fujimoto which opened in December 2020. Innovation has long been threaded through the DNA of the small city, which flourished for centuries as a progressive silk production hub. With this newest opening – a new complex fusing art galleries with residences – the transformation of a sleepy former silk-making city in rural Japan into a major creative hub has taken a leap forward. Maebashi Galleria is the latest in the string of revitalisation projects involving an impressive roll call of top international and Japanese architecture, design and art scene names, that are putting Maebashi in mountainous Gunma prefecture, northwest of Tokyo, firmly on the country's creative map. (Image credit: Shinya Kigure) Maebashi Galleria by Akihisa Hirata ‘Begin by studying the shoin style.' Yet Yoshimura spent his career at the heel of one of Europe’s great architects of the time, learning how to fuse shoin principles with rationalist and modernist thinking. Shofuso, then, is the child of a historic connection between Eastern and Western cultures, and a hinge between nationalist tradition and internationalist modernity. ‘If you want to study Japanese architecture, don’t study the sukiya style,' he once said. Shofuso Japanese House and Gardens, a shoin house (a type of traditional Japanese residential architecture) subtly infused with modernist details, was built in Japan in 1953 by the Tokyo-based architect Junzo Yoshimura, before being shipped to America’s East Coast for a 1954 outdoor exhibition titled ‘The House in the Museum Garden' at New York’s Museum of Modern Art. Shofuso, which moved to Philadelphia in 1957, is an expression of Yoshimura’s interpretations of the Japanese classical shoin-zukuri style of architecture. The architects had previously completed another commission for the couple in Naha City, so they were familiar both with native construction methods, materials available and the traditional, yet contemporary tastes of their clients. The couple who commissioned the house, an art dealer who is originally from Ikema and her husband, an engineering entrepreneur, reside permanently in Naha, Okinawa island, and had always dreamed of having a retreat in Ikema. ![]() ![]() Built of concrete to withstand extreme weather, the architects detailed the home with traditional Japanese materials to soften its edges. It’s important that the surface be flat and featureless because you want the autofocus system to have nothing to focus on but the calibration target. No matter what you will choose for your test scene, make sure it’s an object with an easy to spot focus point and place it in the middle of high-contrast light for the best focus results. We suggest using specialized calibration charts, which are specifically designed for this purpose and can be easily purchased online. Just make sure that the scene you choose has plenty of contrast and detail. This can be anything from a simple piece of paper with a few lines drawn on it to a more complex arrangement of objects. The dock allows for a precise calibration, at different focal lengths and apertures which is essential for getting the most accurate results. The software does all the work for you and provides you with an accurate calibration. There’s no need to eyeball the process or use any special tools. This dock is what makes calibrating Sigma lenses so easy. Usually, the dock will be included with your lens when you purchase it, but if not, it can be purchased separately. The dock also comes with its own software, which you’ll need to download and install on your computer. This handy little device attaches to the base of your lens and allows you to connect it to your computer via USB. The first step is to purchase the Sigma USB Dock. The process is actually pretty straightforward and only requires a few simple steps. Now that we’ve gone over when you might need to calibrate your Sigma lens, let’s talk about how to actually do it. ![]() This will ensure that the two are working together optimally and that you’re getting the most accurate focus possible. If you’ve just purchased a new camera, it’s always a good idea to calibrate the lens to the body. This can knock the internal components out of alignment, causing focus problems. If you drop your lens or otherwise subject it to a significant impactĪnother reason you might need to calibrate your Sigma lens is if you’ve dropped it or otherwise subject it to a hard jolt. This is particularly true if you’ve recently changed lenses or camera bodies, as the new equipment could be throwing off the calibration of your existing lens. If you notice that your images are consistently soft or out of focus, it could be a sign that your lens needs to be calibrated. If you notice that your images are consistently soft or out of focus There are actually a few different scenarios where it might be necessary. You might be wondering when you would need to calibrate your Sigma lens. However, some lenses, especially telephoto lenses, may benefit from occasional recalibration. Most lenses do not require calibration unless they are significantly out of adjustment. This is usually done by using a calibration chart or software that measures the amount of blur in an image. When Would You Need to Calibrate Your Sigma LensĬalibrating a lens is the process of adjusting the focus of the lens to produce sharp images. Its lineup of lenses, which are available for most major camera brands, including Canon, Nikon, Sony, and Olympus, has earned Sigma a reputation as a leader in lens technology. ![]() Selecting a region changes the language and/or content on Corporation is a Japanese multinational corporation specializing in the manufacture of camera and photo imaging products.įounded in 1961, Sigma prides itself on its innovative and high-quality products. “And lens calibration corrects how ‘off’ the lens is.” “It’s like a miscommunication between camera and lens,” says photographer Jason Weingart. Your camera can tell you that it’s focused, but when you zoom in really close, you can see that it’s a little bit off.” “Say you’re shooting a client’s wedding, you use autofocus, and your image is focused on the back of their ear instead of their eye. “That’s the worst thing,” says photographer Felipe Silva. This leaves room for images to appear in focus in the viewfinder, only to be out of focus when they’re actually produced. However, in a DSLR camera an autofocused image requires clear communication between the lens (which lets in the light), the camera’s autofocus chip (which determines when the image is in focus), and the camera’s sensor (which creates the image). Theoretically, autofocus should always produce sharp images, with your chosen subject in focus. Lens calibration, also known as autofocus calibration, is a method of fine-tuning where the focus point falls in your image when you are autofocusing. Then if you really want to improve in the game, I would recommend playing lots of Duelyard. Our orders class will extend the base class, meaning all of these methods are accessible in our orders DB class. We will name our new class PW_Orders_DB. Looking back at our base database class, we have the following methods: It is intended that the class we write in this tutorial be a foundational API and not necessarily a complete one. Note: this is meant purely as a sample and could be extended much further depending on your specific needs. ![]() For this part, we’re going to look at what an orders table might look at and build the database class for interacting with the orders table. In the previous part of this series we wrote the base class that we can then extend for each table in our database.

It is a combination of racing, a huge concours, and an overwhelming deep dive into automotive history. I have the width of the axle housing at the mounting flange for the backing plate (50"), and assuming 2-1/2"-wide drums that should make the overall axle width somewhere around 55" from face of drum to face of drum. The Goodwood Revival is one of the biggest bucket list events in the collector car world. One key dimension I don't know is the width of the axle across the face of the brake drums. Feed me the dimensions and I can start to draw up what you should expect for clearances. Then, drop the bob one more time on the inside of the wheel tub on each side, just in front or to the rear of the axle tube, make another pair of marks and measure the distance from the outside wheel opening lip mark to the mark for the inside face of the wheelhouse tub. This will also help in establishing if the axle is centered to the car. Measure the distance between the first and second marks to establish clearance between the brake drum face and the wheel opening lip, and write down the measurement on both sides. Make another set of marks (one each side) on the floor. Next, drop the bob at the wheel opening's inner lip at the axle's center line. Can you do me a favor? Put the car on jackstands, and with the wheels off, take a plumb bob and drop it off of the face of the brake drum on both sides, and make a couple pencil marks on the floor (one on each side) to establish axle width at the mounting face for the wheel. I'm trying to get dimensions for wheel clearances for a chart I'm working on to put in VTCI's Thunderbird Scoop as well as answer questions like this when someone asks in the VTCI Forum, but I don't have a '58-'60 close by to measure. The stock 800x14 tire had an overall height of between 27.02"-27.58" and section width of 7.65" (just over 7-5/8") - subtract the 14" rim diameter at the mounting bead and dividing by 2 leaves a tire height of 6.51"-6.79" a 215-75R14 tire typically has an overall diameter of 26.69" (shorter than the stock 8.00x14) and section width of 8.1". With the stock wheel being 5-7/8" wide at the outside of the flanges, that would leave a distance of 4-5/16" from the mounting face of the wheel hub to the outside face of the stock wheel. I figured a 5/8" offset from the center line of the stock wheel to the mounting face of the wheel center and a 3-9/16" backset from the inside face of rim to the mounting face at the hub. To establish a baseline/starting point, I have attached a drawing showing the stock wheel dimensions for the '58-'60 T-bird wheel, but don't know if you can open or download it from here. I apologize - I didn't get a chance to respond to the message you sent me back in May when you started asking about backset. |
